Well done Eden writing a letter as a soldier. At the time, not many people would have had telephones. It is not as it is today, where everyone has so much technology available to them.

The letter then became a very important form of communication for soldiers and believe it or not, it still is. My nephew had his phone taken away and locked away with others in his group, while he did his basic training. He asked us to write to him as he was allowed to receive letters. No emails. No phone calls. It was great to write letters each week to him and he loved receiving them.
